I come to the pond to give her my sorrow
She whispers so calmly, come back tomorrow
For it won’t be today as today there is no need for me to take your sorrow
And your body will feel bare and your heart will feel hollow
But you’ll sleep so soundly, knowing there’s tomorrow
And i said lady pond, i am afraid for tomorrow
Lady pond, won’t you take me under?
Or let me stay by your cool waters
Till the break of day has eased the longing
But i listen anyway, walk back to the meadow
Hop over the wooden fence, drive the car to palmetto
I didn’t want to go home, for home was a sad shadow
Lurking in my peripheral, searching for the right signal
And i said lady pond, i am afraid for nightfall
Lady pond, this minds a ticking time bomb
And i don’t quite like who i’ve been these days
At the first sight of light, i rush back to the meadow
Cross over the same field, the dew up to my elbows
Just a little farther, through a small patch of pine wood
And there she glistens true, beneath a sky of baby blue
And i said lady pond, what can you do for me?
Are you there, are you listening?
But her words were no more
Just the splash of a lone fish
And the flock of wild geese, opening their wings
To the early morning breeze
She breathes, i breathe
She sings, i sing
I believe, i believe
